Race the Cape Doctor Series aboard Cape 31 KATABATIC 

Spend the South African summer racing one of the world’s most exciting one-design fleets, in the waters where the Cape 31 was born. KATABATIC is available to charter for all seven events of the 2026/27 Cape Doctor Series, raced off the V&A Waterfront, Royal Cape Yacht Club and Saldanha Bay. 

Built in Cape Town in 2023, KATABATIC comes back to South Africa after a strong 2026 season in the UK. She finished 2nd overall at Cowes Week, 3rd at the Cape 31 UK National Championship and 4th overall in the UK season. She is a proven, fully optimised boat, ready to compete at the front of the fleet from the first gun. 

Everything you need to go racing 

This is a turnkey racing programme. You bring the crew and the ambition, and we take care of the rest. The charter includes: 

• The boat, prepared and race-ready to Cape 31 class rules, with full B&G electronics, Harken deck hardware and handling upgrades including halyard and drop-line reelers. 

• A full North Sails 3Di race inventory, with a 2024 main and jibs and a complete spinnaker wardrobe for everything from light air to the full force of the Cape Doctor. 

• A professional boat captain to manage preparation, logistics, maintenance, sailing and dock support throughout the series, so you can focus on sailing. 

The Cape Doctor 

Cape Town’s famous south-easterly is one of the most reliable and powerful summer breezes in world sailing. It is ideal conditions for the Cape 31, a boat that delivers serious upwind pace and downwind speeds above 25 knots. Expect short, intense windward-leeward racing in a competitive owner-driver fleet, with a dockside debrief after every day on the water.

Event 4: Tip of Africa Cup, 29–31 January 2027, V&A Waterfront 

Event 5: Tip of Africa Cup, 5–7 February 2027, V&A Waterfront 

Event 6: Mykonos Offshore, 26–28 February 2027, Royal Cape Yacht Club 

Event 7: Yacht Port Cup, 6–7 March 2027, Yacht Port, Saldanha Bay 

Charter the full series to compete for the overall title, or join for individual events. Crew may change between events, so the boat can work for a single team or a rotating group of friends, clients or colleagues.
