HYPR — ex-CAMPER, Volvo Open 70
HYPR is one of the most storied Volvo 70s ever built: designed by Botin for the Camper/Emirates Team New Zealand campaign in the 2011–2012 Volvo Ocean Race, she finished 2nd overall against a fleet of the world's best offshore raceboats — Groupama 4, PUMA, Telefónica and Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing among them.
Skippered by Chris Nicholson, Camper won Leg 4 into Auckland outright and was consistently on the podium across the nine-leg, round-the-world course, taking second overall on both the offshore legs and the in-port race series.
Built by a design team combining Botin & Partners with the Emirates Team New Zealand design office, the boat was conceived from the outset for a rare combination of raw offshore VMG and short-course inshore agility — this made her one of the most versatile boats in the fleet during the campaign.
Since her VOR campaign, HYPR has been extensively refined. A comprehensive 2016 refit under the design oversight of Carkeek Design Partners at the Longitud Cero facility included an extended keel (to 5.2m draft), a reduced bulb weight, hull refinishing and a full structural inspection — upgrades specifically aimed at optimising her for IRC/ORC rated racing, sharpening her rating-adjusted performance for owners campaigning under those handicap systems today.
The combination of her pedigree, her Botin-designed hull, and her post-refit optimisation makes a strong case that HYPR is arguably the best-VMG Volvo 70 ever built — a boat equally capable of dominating an IRC/ORC fleet inshore or eating up miles on an offshore passage, Hypr is waiting for a new team to unlock her true potential.

Upgrades & Modifications
In 2016, as 'Warrior' this yacht underwent a complete refit and series of performance upgrades at the Longitud Cero facility in Burriana, ESP. Design and engineering was overseen by Carkeek Design Partners. As part of the refit process, team staff removed, inspected, and serviced every item of deck hardware and winches
on the yacht, replacing fresh following the paintjob.
Upgrades:
Keel extended from 4.8 to 5.2m draft
Bulb weight reduced from 5t to 4t
ballast tanks installed. 1.6t water - 800kg per side aft
Aft escape hatch installed in transom, as well as life raft compartments added.
Coach roof design was altered.
All topsides and foils faired and repainted.
4th pedestal was added, with addition of overdrive box.
VOR media desk and structure removed, allowing fresh water system, with on deck tap to be added for no weight gain.
