This post draws on "World's Coolest Yachts: Maxi 72 Rán II", first published by Yachting World in September 2023. All credit for the original feature goes to Yachting World. Every so often a raceboat becomes part of offshore sailing history. In its World's Coolest Yachts series, Yachting World picked the Maxi 72 Rán II as one of them. Top British sailor Adrian Stead put her forward, and Yachting World gave her an "adrenalin factor" of 80%. We think that's a fair score. The bo

Grand prix race boats that can still win at the top level don't come up for sale often. X-Day (GER 8419), a Farr GP42 2.60, is one of them. She's lying in Kiel, Germany, with EU VAT paid, and the asking price is €250,000. Her race record X-Day is still winning races. In just the last three seasons she has: won the 2024 Malta Coastal Race outright finished 8th overall in the 2025 Rolex Fastnet Race, in one of offshore racing's deepest fleets won the 2023 ORC Corinthian Europea

Some of the best boats never touch the open market — and Mockingbird was one of them. When our client came to us looking for a competitive TP52, the search didn't start with a listings page. It started with our network. Mockingbird, a 2015 Botin-designed, King Marine-built TP52 originally campaigned under the name Bronanosec on the Super Series circuit, wasn't advertised anywhere. Her owner wasn't shopping her around, and she wasn't sitting on a brokerage site waiting for an

HYPR (ex Camper): A Volvo Ocean Race Legend Is Back on the Market — And the Timing Couldn't Be Better There's a reason the phones have been ringing about this one. HYPR — the Volvo Open 70 formerly known as Camper, the boat that finished runner-up in the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race — has just come out of the water in Vigo, Spain, and the interest so far tells us everything we need to know: this is one of the most capable offshore racing machines ever built, and it's ready for it

After the racingyachts.com team sold Anyways Racing Team their Cape 31, they capped off a whirlwind debut regatta by winning the IRC 0 class at the 55th Turkish Naval Forces Cup (Navy Cup), held July 11–14 and organized in partnership with TAYK 1971 and Güney Yarışı. The regatta was raced in two offshore legs: Leg 1 — Istanbul to Bozcaada: 165 nautical miles, completed in 1 day, 2 hours, and 34 minutes. 1st place, IRC 0. Leg 2 — Bozcaada to Çeşme: 100 nautical miles, complete

How RacingYachts is Driving the Cape 31 UK Class When it comes to one-design racing on the Solent, few classes have captured the imagination quite like the Cape 31. In a statement debut on the Mediterranean racing circuit, Hispania TP52 (Ex Vesper TP52) claimed overall victory in the ORC 0 class at the 53rd Trofeo de Vela Conde de Godó OOA, organised by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona — one of the most prestigious offshore regattas in the Mediterranean. Against the stunning backdrop of the Barcelona skyline — with the Sagrada Família rising unmistakably on the horizon — Hispania demonstrated the kind of consistent, controlled sailing

We ask top sailors and marine industry gurus to choose the coolest and most innovative yachts of our times. British offshore racer Brian Thompson nominates MOD70 Phaedo. I’d choose the MOD70 without too much doubt because the boat is so beautifully thought out. It is a great combination of speed, safety (even though four of them have capsized!) and reliability. Of the seven that were built, I have sailed four of them, for hundreds of thousands of miles. They were born from th

Chris Nicholson nominates the Volvo Open 70, Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand, as his Coolest Yacht. This is the yacht he skippered to 2nd place in the 2011/12 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, setting a new 24-hour monohull record of 565 miles along the way... “I’ve been fortunate to race on board and race against a great many boats I could nominate for my Coolest Yacht, but for me it would have to be the Volvo Open 70. And I if I had to narrow it down to one boat, it wo

The Cape 31 is a one-design yacht originally created for racing in South Africa, which has rapidly expanded with fleets around the world. Andy Rice chats to David Swete and Reports.

This article draws on original reporting by Richard Gladwell for Sail-World, who interviewed Philippe Oulhen of Juan-K Design. Read Gladwell's original article here. For a design built to survive one lap of the planet, the Volvo Open 70 has proven remarkably durable — both structurally and competitively. Fifteen years after the last of three Volvo Ocean Races contested in the class wrapped up in 2012, several VO70s are still winning major offshore events on handicap, long aft

Beating IRC Class 1 and 2 to the Britannia Cup The standout result came on the Wednesday of race week, in the contest for the Britannia Cup — a trophy presented in 1951 by King George VI and traditionally reserved for the largest boats at the regatta. Sandy Askew's Cape 31 Flying Jenny beat 23 of the highest-rated IRC yachts in the fleet, including boats from IRC Classes 1 and 2, to take the win. It's a result with a wider significance too: Flying Jenny's name now goes up on
